Overview

There are few places in Greece as breathtaking as Balos Lagoon, and even fewer moments more magical than sunset. This small-group sailing experience invites you to discover one of the island’s most iconic locations during the most beautiful time of day, when the crowds begin to fade and the landscape is bathed in golden light.

Departing from Kissamos aboard a modern luxury catamaran, you’ll sail along Crete’s spectacular northwestern coastline towards the famous Balos Lagoon. With a maximum of approximately 22 guests onboard, the atmosphere remains relaxed, intimate, and personal throughout the journey.

Once anchored near Balos, you’ll have time to swim in crystal-clear turquoise waters, snorkel among marine life, try paddleboarding, or simply float and relax while admiring one of the Mediterranean’s most photographed landscapes.

As the afternoon progresses, enjoy a selection of drinks and light Cretan snacks while the crew prepares for the highlight of the day: sunset at sea. Watching the sun slowly disappear behind the western horizon from the deck of a catamaran is an unforgettable experience and one of the most romantic moments you can enjoy in Crete.

At True Cretan, we carefully select experiences that showcase the island from a local perspective. This sailing trip combines natural beauty, comfort, authentic hospitality, and the kind of unforgettable moments that often become the highlight of an entire holiday.

Tour Considerations Sustainability and Safety

Sailing small group to Dia island

We believe that the best travel experiences should also respect the places we visit. Small-group sailing excursions naturally create a lower environmental impact compared to large-scale tourism operations while allowing for a more personal connection with Crete’s marine environment.

The crew follows strict safety procedures and monitors weather conditions continuously. Routes may occasionally be adjusted if sea conditions require it, always prioritizing passenger safety. Life jackets, flotation devices, first-aid equipment, and emergency communication systems are available onboard.

Guests are encouraged to help protect Balos Lagoon by avoiding littering, respecting local wildlife, and using reef-safe sunscreen whenever possible. By traveling responsibly, we help preserve this extraordinary natural wonder for future generations.
