Overview

If you’re looking to experience Crete beyond the busy beaches and crowded sightseeing spots, this small-group sailing adventure from Kolymvari offers the perfect escape. Combining spectacular coastal scenery, crystal-clear waters, authentic hospitality, and a relaxed atmosphere, it showcases a side of western Crete that many visitors never get to see.

Departing from the charming fishing village of Kolymvari, you’ll sail along the stunning northwestern coastline towards the protected island of Agioi Theodoroi (also known as Thodorou Island), a small uninhabited islet famous for its untouched natural beauty and its population of rare Kri-Kri wild goats. The island is part of a protected nature reserve and cannot be visited on foot, making a sailing excursion one of the best ways to admire its beauty.

Once anchored in the island’s turquoise waters, you’ll have plenty of time to swim, snorkel, paddleboard, or simply relax on deck while taking in the scenery. The water here is exceptionally clear, creating ideal conditions for marine life observation and underwater exploration.

Guests can choose between two equally rewarding experiences. The Morning Cruise offers calmer seas, softer light, and a refreshing start to the day, while the Sunset Cruise provides a magical evening atmosphere with golden-hour sailing, a Mediterranean-style dinner, and breathtaking sunset views over the Cretan Sea.

Throughout the cruise, you’ll enjoy freshly prepared food, drinks, and genuine Cretan hospitality from an experienced crew who know these waters intimately. At True Cretan, we carefully select experiences that combine comfort, authenticity, and meaningful encounters with Crete’s natural beauty, and this sailing trip does exactly that.

Tour Considerations Sustainability and Safety

Sailing small group to Dia island

Agioi Theodoroi is a protected natural reserve and an important habitat for the endangered Cretan wild goat (Kri-Kri). By exploring the island from the sea rather than visiting it directly, guests help preserve its fragile ecosystem while still enjoying its remarkable beauty.

The crew emphasizes responsible sailing practices, careful waste management, and respect for local marine life. Safety is always a priority. The vessel carries certified safety equipment, life jackets for all ages, first-aid supplies, and communication systems.

Before departure, you receive a safety briefing, and the captain continuously monitors weather and sea conditions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
